Day Camp Frequently Asked Questions

How will you maintain the health of the campers?

The health of our campers and staff is always an important part of a successful summer camp.  As always, we thoroughly clean cabins between sessions and encourage the practice of good hygiene in our campers. Communication with parents is a priority when it comes to camper health and safety.

How do I contact the Camp Nurse?

If you have a question or concern about your child's medical care while at camp, please reach out directly to our camp nurse at Nurse@camprio.org . This is the most efficient way to get in touch.

Is it safe at camp?

Yes!  The safety of our campers, camper families, and staff is our number one priority. The world can be a scary place, but we want Camp to be a place you can trust. Please visit our safety page to review our safety measures.

Does my child have to attend a certain school to come to this Camp?

No! All children are welcome to experience Camp RIO. We are open to all children ages 5-14 from any school district.  We want all kids to come have fun at camp!

Can I drop my child off at Day Camp?

Yes! Please see our Parent Drop Off and Pick Up page for summer instructions.

How will you keep my child safe?

Our staff is trained and certified in every activity we offer as well as First Aid and CPR certified. We have a Camp Health Aide who will attend to any medical needs that arise as well as administer medications that you send. We will ensure that your child gets plenty of water while they are here, and will encourage them to eat so they have the energy they will need. In addition, we have a child protection plan in place to ensure that Camp RIO is a healthy, safe place for your child to thrive!

Are you feeding my child?

Yes! We will feed them breakfast and lunch while they are here at camp.  All dietary restrictions must be noted in the registration portal.

Who will take care of my child while they attend camp?

Qualified adult college students who are first-aid certified and trained in the camp activities they facilitate will supervise your campers throughout the day. The ratio of adults to campers is approximately 1 to 4.

Is this an overnight camp?

Yes! We offer overnight summer camp.   See our Summer Overnight Camp page for more details.

What will the campers eat?

Camp RIO will provide Breakfast and Lunch to children who attend Day Camp. Click HERE to see the menu. If you would like to pack a lunch for your child, you are welcome to do so.

What if my child takes medications?

Medications will need to be sent with your camper every day for day camp. You will need to hand them to the camp nurse during drop-off (or the bus driver) and they will be checked-in with our camp nurse upon arrival. Medications will be returned through the nurse/bus drivers during pick-up at the end of the day.  A medication administration form must be filled out and included with any medication sent (unless sent electronically in advance). Please email nurse@camprio.org if you need assistance with this.

What activities will my child do?

Campers will participate in similar activities as previous years.  The activities that we generally offer are archery, tomahawks, riflery, arts & crafts, fishing, canoeing, swimming, survival skills, sports, and games. We also offer additional activities based on the unique skills of the staff we hire.  Every year is a little bit different.  Come and see what this year might offer!

How long will my child be at camp every day?

Drop-off starts at 7:45 am and campers will need to be picked up no later than 4:00 pm.  The gate is scheduled to open at 3:30 pm but occasionally we will open it a little earlier if the bus campers have already pulled away from camp.

What does my child need to take to camp every day?

Use this packing list to send your camper with the essentials for day camp.

Are you still accepting registrations for summer camp?

Yes, we are accepting registrations for day and overnight camps. Click here to register now.

What is your Refund Policy?

A Deposit per child per session is due at the time of registration in order to secure your camper's spot in camp. This  amount is refundable until March 31 of the current Camp Season. Starting April 1 of that same Season, the deposit  becomes non-refundable barring medical issues (see below). All other registration fees/camp fees/tuition must be paid no later than the final payment due date (or at the time of  registration if registering AFTER the final payment due date). We cannot guarantee your camper's spot will be held without total tuition paid by the final payment due date.

REFUND POLICY

First, we would like to encourage you to simply move to another camp session so your child can have the experience of summer camp. Our cancellation policy has been created due to the increased demand for available camper space and to insure fairness to all who wish to attend. However, we understand that things come up and you may need to cancel all together. To do so, please call or email us with this information, and subject to the following terms and conditions:

  •  Deposit is not refundable or transferable at any time unless it is a medical reason (must have written and signed explanation from medical doctor).
  •  If you cancel with more than 30 days till the session start date, then you will receive all money paid EXCEPT the deposit that is not refundable.
  • Registration fees/camp fees/tuition for cancellations less than 30 days before the session start date are not refundable but may be transferred as credit toward a different camp session during the same season if there is space availability at the time of the cancellation. If there is no space available, then it remains non-refundable.
  • Once a camp session begins, we cannot make any adjustments or offer any credits.
