As an American Camp Association (ACA) Accredited Camp, we uphold the highest standards in youth development. ACA is the leading authority in the field, and we use its rigorous guidelines to inform every aspect of our operations. This accreditation reflects our commitment to providing a safe, enriching, and enjoyable experience for campers, staff, and families alike.
Your camper’s health and safety are our top priorities, and we take that responsibility seriously. In addition to the details outlined below, we ensure that every child stays well-fed and hydrated throughout the day. We also reinforce healthy habits like brushing teeth and maintaining personal hygiene, while encouraging campers to be respectful roommates by keeping their cabins clean and organized.
At Camp RIO, emotional safety is just as vital as physical safety. We are committed to creating an environment where every camper feels secure, respected, and free from bullying or teasing. If your child shares any concerns with you, please inform us right away. Our staff works diligently to provide strong supervision and guide campers in resolving conflicts in positive, respectful ways—an important part of learning to live and grow in community with others.
Our licensed Camp Nurse is on-site to address any medical needs and administer any medications you provide. In addition, all staff members are certified in First Aid and CPR, ensuring your camper receives safe, competent care at all times.
Before the summer season begins, our staff undergoes two intensive weeks of training. They must demonstrate proficiency in each activity before being allowed to lead. Campers are never left unsupervised, and we strictly follow the “Rule of 3”: counselors and campers must always move in groups of three or more to ensure constant supervision and safety.
Camp RIO employs Security Guards to patrol the property from sundown to sunrise during our summer camp season.
Camp RIO has fencing around it's 85 acres and much of it is also covered with thick thorn brush which would be difficult (and painful) to get through.
Camp RIO is secured by two electric gates which are locked at all times. Entry is only permitted by appointment.
All visitors to Camp RIO must submit to a background check and receive a visitor badge before walking around property. They will also be accompanied by a Camp staff member as required.
Certain areas of camp like the swimming pool and maintenance shop are locked when not being used to prevent campers from accessing those locations.
