Summer Camp Safety Plan 2021

image44

Health and safety is our top priority

Camp RIO values the safety of your children. We have developed the following protocols to help your children have a safe summer camp experience.

image45

Cleaning & Disinfecting

  • Summer staff and campers are trained on proper sanitizing procedures for hard surfaces, hand-washing, and social distancing measures.
  • Staff are trained on how to monitor campers to prevent behaviors that spread illness.
  • At Camp RIO, daily morning cleaning of restrooms will include use of EPA-approved disinfectant spray or wipes (2-minute contact time) of all commonly touched surfaces
  • (bathrooms, cubbies, handles, doorknobs).

image46

  • Electrostatic sprayers will be used at least twice a week to spray canoes, handrails, benches, and all hard surfaces in contact with people.
  • High-touch surfaces, including activity class items (like archery equipment, basketballs, etc.), will be sanitized with an organic, liquid spray sanitizer before every class.

image47

  • Camp staff will perform a detailed deep cleaning at the end of each week and before each new camper arrival.
  • Daily kitchen and dining hall protocols will include continued use of dish machines that use multiple agents to clean and sanitize dishes within a high-temperature cycle.

image48

  • Public restrooms are inspected, restocked, disinfected in between camper groups by camp work crews. These include, but are not limited to, restrooms, picnic areas, sports courts, and offices.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available around camp.

Staff & Camper Training

  • Training our staff and our campers is an essential part of staying safe. We train our staff on proper sanitizing procedures, appropriate hand-washing techniques, and how to monitor campers to prevent behaviors that spread illness.
  • We continue to monitor updates on COVID-19 and provide necessary training to our staff to implement recommendations/guidelines published from trusted government agencies and the American Camp Association.
  • For our campers, we emphasize covering mouths when sneezing or coughing and handwashing right after, avoiding unnecessary physical contact, and not sharing personal items.

COVID UPDATE

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released updates to COVID mandates for the state. Changes include rescinding the state-wide mask requirement and public area capacity limits starting next week. Our campers, staff, and camper families' health and safety are our top priority, and we will always do our part to keep our community safe. Camp RIO will continue our current safety protocols, including health screenings, wearing masks, ongoing sanitation procedures, and observing social distancing.
